Basin and Bay 

The recent earthquake 6.0 magnitude and 10 km deep in  Kabul basin  Eastern Afghanistan  was very destructive.  Physical geography of this area : it has a River ( Kabul River), huge land lock, Hindu Kush mountain range.

Mountain ranges, basin, bay   On tectonic suffer very destructive earthquake.  There are several large basin in the Pacific West coast, ( Cali, WA, OR),Pacific East Coast (China, Japan, Phillipines), and  they are highly seismic ( Ring of Fire). 

According to USGS.gov, ( US Geological Survey) there were greater than 100  6-7/ magnitude earthquakes ~ 105 in 2025 worldwide.

East coast Pacific Rim, very seismic > 1000 annually and destructive volcanoes.  There are many large basin in, large cities, rivers.  In the past decade, the world has experienced many earthquakes, floods, volcanic eruptions.  Earthquakes in crowded areas can be very devastating,  buildings, homes are destroyed.  Humanitarian assistance is not enough to cover the damage.  It may take years to recover from the loss. 

Infrastructure in seismic zone needs to be carefully designed and maintained, in order to protect Rivers , lakes, ocean ( water conservation).  Mountain ranges on tectonic are very dangerous.
