The earth is 71% of water ( ocean, rivers, lakes, pond). Clean and clear water is possible thanks to microscopic algae called phytoplankton. It is a vital nutrient in water and marine ecosystem. Coral, rivers / lakes depend on algae / phytoplankton to maintaining a healthy ecosystem. Phytoplankton and sunlight work together to keep every region viable. Forest and marine communities in all regions thrive in environment with abundant of plankton/clean water.

Plankton is abundant in tropical regions, Southern ocean, the Indian Ocean has more summer days , more sunlight ( photosynthesis) that helps keep the ocean water clean, clear. Moreover, the purest water in rivers and lakes found in islands in the Indian Ocean ( Chagos, Rodrigues). The turquoise color of ocean water comes from the amount of plankton in the water.
