North America Great Plains is one of the most unique grassland ecosystems in the world. Great Plains is from Southern Canada, Rocky Mountains, down to Mississippi River and Texas.  This area is a sea of grass/ prairies, endless field of grains. There are 60 species of grass, and North American tall grass is one of the rarest species in the world and can only found in Great Plains. Moreover, it accounts for most of the rainfall annually.

According to Geological Survey~approximately 70% of grassland has disappeared due to over exploitation.  Evaporation rate is high in Great Plains, and American tall grass is the only species that protect the Great Plains hydrological system.

Great Plains produce the highest quality of hay meadows  for live stock.   Hay meadows support a huge range of flowers that are pollinators best friend. The coming of this La Niña winter, means more protection is needed for Great Plains farmers and soil management.
